Obituary for Lawrence R. St. Jean Sr.

Lawrence R. St. Jean Sr., 99, passed away July 30, 2018 in Bayberry Commons, Pascoag. Mr. St. Jean was a resident of Pascoag for 67 years. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Moroney) St. Jean. He was born in North Providence, the son of the late Albert and Eva (Lambert) St. Jean.
In his early years, Larry had been a skilled tennis player, a talented violinist and an avid curler. He was a graduate of Burrillville High School, attended Lowell Textile University and became a Textile Engineer. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps. in 1942. He was a proud World War II Veteran and flew 40 missions over Europe, earning him a Purple Heart in combat. After the War, he started a family and worked as a Textile Engineer. He continued in the field, working in textile sales and later, retired from Columbia Narrow Fabrics in 1975.
Mr. St. Jean was dedicated to taking care of his quadriplegic son Matthew for 46 years. He was a member of the Burrillville School Committee, serving the community in the 1950s and 1980s. He served on the Building Committee for the Burrillville Middle School in the 1980s.
Larry recently celebrated his 99th birthday at his home with his family and many of his circle of friends and neighbors, who helped care for him and make it possible for him to continue living at his home with his son on Sayles Ave.
He loved his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren, often sitting outside on his porch or patio on a sunny day. He was an avid fan of tennis, golf and the Red Sox.
Lawrence is survived by his three sons: Lawrence R. St. Jean Jr. of Milford, MA, Robert M. St. Jean and Matthew M. St. Jean, both of Pascoag; five grand-daughters; three great grand-daughters and one great-grandson.
The family is planning a private service at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI with full Military Honors and a Memorial Mass to follow at St Joseph's Parish at a later date.
